The very first Emo Samurai comic! If you're a new reader (and seeing that you're reading the first comic, you probably are) allow me to assure you- the art does get much, much better than you see here. If you don't believe me, go here and see for yourself.

Now... let's see. First comic. This went up on February 14th 2006, in all it's pencil-sketched glory. I first started creating The Adventures of Emo Samurai as a way of giving readers more reason to come back to the site, even on days when Sushi Database would not update. Reason being, we were a small comic and we were having trouble doing more than two comics a week. I was NOT (and am not) an artist, but it occurred to me: maybe I could do stick figure comics as a filler, to draw people back to the site.

My girlfriend at the time loved to make fun of emo kids, so it made sense to me that I make a silly side comic about that. For the life of me, I don't know how I jumped from that to the concept of an Emo Samurai, but after that it fell into place. I decided that the character would be literally named Emo Samurai and would be overdramatic about everything. I thought that I'd give him an angsty past and I could use the comic to poke fun at Rurouni Kenshin. The broken engrish speech patterns thing was a spur of the moment decision, and I'm glad I made it.
